The Dog Days of Spring in Nova Scotia

I out today that his office chair Mike insisted I need to go for a walk was pried by! True, I need to practice. Winter is long and hard on me this year! Mike told me to get a flu shot, I did not think what ... Need I say more. After 10 weeks I am now again feeling human, and sunny window in the summer and spring that is calling me out slow miracle of life.

It was a great day here in Nova Scotia, the snow nearly all gone and our favorite walking trail, which was once a railway line is now full of ice-free and fabulous vistas. There are great granite outcrops and hills accumulated during the last ice age, now covered in trees and moss, and roaring rivers, babbling brooks and many great fishing lakes. Railway line was cut back on the scene around 1910 and it was no easy task. Tracks was torn about 90 years later the line had become abandoned and turned into a walking trail. It is also a great way to exercise our two energetic English Springer Spaniels place!

Our name Hunter and Brittany dogs, brother and sister, a mother and a grandmother before them, even before birth in our cellar in our basement 10 years are born in a cozy den. We do not breed dogs to sell, but only to breed promote its line of our cherished pets.

Hunter with a heart of gold is a rambunctious child. A Springer, she is very quiet and would have made a wonderful hospice dog. She is very large feather legs, a perfect flame under his nose and a penchant for running with a big guy. He was a disaster as a pheasant hunting dog as he is always more than one of the counties where it should be, the number and all is good for a hunter. He also will go where no other dog has gone before. In fact nod!

Britney timid and was a non-hunting family pet is expected. A big heart, delicate paws and a beautiful beautiful dog with a breathing problem - he snorts. In fact, he looks like a pig! She also dished out large-scale down when God seemed to mind. Lack of light is what we called it! But both dogs voice, hand and whistle commands have been trained to follow and he did well enough.

When Hunter officially hunting at the tender age of 5 was retired in disgrace for disobedience, Mike Hunter decided to take her place in Brittany - the more the 'Little Missy' than anything else, give some exercise. Who would have thought that he would excel in the field - we certainly do not! Light switch flicked in his head, his eyes began to shine, and Britney suddenly realized there being pampered dog than a life was too much. He yipped with joy and excitement almost perfect little huntress, probably the best hunting dog ever had Mike has become.

How dogs know they are going for a walk is beyond me! You out of the house to the car can run 10 times and they go great with you and will be happy to settle on the deck. But the moment you leave the house to go for a walk, they yipping / start with the excitement around your feet smell and roiling. Once the car they stimulation and constant 'thing' with the extract. Little squeaks and whines - yes, and snorts - which increase the amount closer we get to trail running. They and every bump on the road know and we should not turn into designated parking, there is total panic!

mid-afternoon crowd of hikers walk the dog think his first name and we've gotten to know many other pets. On the other hand, their owners, as perhaps we do go unnamed. The dogs are allowed the luxury of running loose and leashed only when other dogs or people are coming my way.

Hunter was ordered to run and once at a high rate of speed down the bank and hopefully flush a partridge loves taking in the countryside. If he is successful he will follow it, trees and birds so disappointed when he sits there on the wing joke. Britney on the other hand, walking on the heels of the enterprise does not go away. Should he take the scent of a pheasant, and that his nose to track down, yipping and snorting as he gets starts. There is a great deal of excitement all around and it's amazing to watch these dogs work. Absolutely and completely in his element are.

In this time of year some rivers and ponds are still ice covered, but ice is rotten and crumbling away. A dog with our greatest fears is that they fall through the ice and out at will. When there is dense bush around, recovery will not be easy, if not impossible if we go too far range and the dogs do not frequent Hunter recalled.

You just plotting his escape as he walks along the trail to the left or right and though the direction he wants to take, we told her involuntarily leans in the warning I can see . Escape route from the eye and then to ignore it hoping we have not seen the show before you can blink an eye, he will have gone!

Bank goes down like a shot in the woods, you can hear everything twigs, branches have been broken by the tinkling of a bell. Some - hunters now so attached to his collar that we can monitor their activities bells! If he is, he will stop the green and rocky nothing on earth in search of pheasants. On his whistle pipping father is completely ignored. It is considered bad dog behavior and unfortunately now become a fairly regular thing.

He did just that this afternoon. Mike and I were watching him knowing that he will try and bolt and then the moment we let down our guard, was that he left. We all could hear branches breaking and bell chimes as had been found off the fainter range. Then we heard the ice break!

Country quiet, Mike stood and I looked scared, and Britney wanting to get on with running our feet stood on. What little frantic at the end whistle blows pips being started as - but to no avail. We hear nothing but the dog as the vegetation was thick could follow. Silence reigned!

Then, in a totally different direction away from the sound of a bell came out in the woods. It was a long way off, but coming in our direction. A couple of minutes later, Hunter appeared on the trail a hundred yards away looking very pleased with himself. He really was smiling from ear to ear! Harsh words by both Mike and I pooch I was very happy that he was safe and sound and I really did not mean to accept harsh words have been spoken to. Hunter was placed on a leash and was venturing on for the day.

Home bar and nice warm bed with her sister settled in the kitchen. Hunter, still smiled a very tired!
